Berks Arts Council announces inaugural Reading Blues Fest set for Oct. 6-8

The Berks Arts Council, which has presented the Boscov’s Berks Jazz Fest for 27 years, has announced that it will be bringing a new festival to downtown Reading. The inaugural Reading Blues Fest will provide three days of national, regional and local blues musicians from Oct. 6 to Oct. 8. The new festival, like the Jazz Fest, will be managed by John Ernesto, along with the BAC staff and many volunteers. [More]

Join Berks History Center for a rockin’ good time at "The Magical History Tour: Hours of Flower Power." Dance to your favorite music of the 60's and 70's with band reunion members from Hot Ice, The Rockers, the Rock 'n Roll Soul Revival, and more. Bring lawn chairs, blankets, and your dancing shoes. Dress in comfortable vintage attire and have a fab time. Rain or shine. No outside food, drinks, or coolers permitted.

Berks Opera Company will host two performances of Rossini's
La Cenerentola. Rossini's take on the classic fairy tale Cinderella is a captivating confection of hilarity from beginning to end and will delight audiences of all ages. A pre-performance lecture by Berks Opera Company member David Richie will start approximately 45 minutes before each performance.

Australian Indie Rock band The Griswolds have canceled their appearance at the Aug. 16 Downtown Alive free concert in Reading due to a scheduling conflict, the Berks County Community Foundation announced.
Replacing the trio will be singer/songwriter Howie Day, best known for his smash "Collide" from his gold 2004 album "Stop All the World Now." Day's other singles include "She Says" and "Be There."
Philadelphia-based artist Tim Williams will open the show.
And don't miss the final concert of the 2017 season!

Requiem: Chant in 20th & 21st century choral music. The workshop facilitator is Dr. Daniel Spratlan, Director of Music at Presbyterian Church of Chestnut Hill and interim Director of Choral and Vocal Studies at Haverford College. He is an active professional singer with a versatile bass voice that has allowed him to perform many genres of vocal music. He willl start the day with a 1-hour reading session focusing on 20th & 21st century choral works that draw their musical material from chant. This workshop is open to the public. America's Classic Ballpark will turn into a winter wonderland this holiday season when the Fightin Phils host
Christmas at FirstEnergy Stadium. The event will run from "Black Friday," November 24 through Saturday, December 23. Local bands, choruses, and musicians will play yuletide favorites on the Boscov's Berks Jazz Fest Stage. The Fightins are calling all local choirs, bands, orchestras, and other musical groups to schedule to perform.
